During an Oval Office meeting on May 7th with Iowa Governor Kimberly
Reynolds, Trump said the following: “The media likes to say we have the
most cases, but we do by far the most testing. If we did very little testing,
we wouldn’t have the most cases. So, in a way, by doing all of this testing,
we make ourselves look bad.”
This statement flies in the face of logic, according to Worldometer’s
testing data, the U.S. still has not cracked the top 40 countries and
territories in terms of testing per capita.
I recently saw an article about the number of tests in the US. The article said that the current level of testing in the US is still far short of the level needed to safely reopen businesses and schools, but it is now higher per capita than other countries. According to this article, the problem now is that the US had such a delayed and inadequate response to the pandemic that the spread of the disease went unabated and now a much higher testing rate is needed to help reduce the spread.
I agree with your comment. Trump continues to say we are the best.
